Robert D. Hoats, 66, of Sugarloaf, passed away early Monday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton, following a short illness.
Born in Hazleton, November 20, 1951, he was the son of the late Ralph E. Hoats and Margaret (Tobias) Hoats Lawrence, and spent the past 20 years in Sugarloaf after moving from Fern Glen.
Bob was a graduate of Mansfield University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He was the retired Chief of Police for the Conyngham Boro Police Department, having served the department for over 30 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Weston and enjoyed camping and fishing.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his step-father George Lawrence.
Surviving are a brother Thomas, and his wife Kaye, Emmaus; a sister Cathy Hoats, Downers Grove, IL; and two nieces Betsy Krauss, her husband Daniel, and their daughter Rachael, Sandy Hook, CT; and Abby Hoats, Paso Robles, CA.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 10:30am with a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart R.C. Church, 554 Main Street, Weston. Friends may call at the church Saturday morning from 9:30 am until the time of the Mass. Interment will follow in Nuremberg Cemetery.
