Lewis D. Eckrote, 91, of Mifflinville, passed away Thursday afternoon at Elmcroft of Berwick where he had resided for the past sixteen months.
Born in Rock Glen, January 7, 1927, he was the son of the late Frank and Caroline (Roth) Eckrote and had lived in Mifflinville for 65 years prior to residing at Elmcroft.
Lewis worked as an auto mechanic for 27 years for Eckrote Brothers, Berwick and later was a Utility Plant Operator for the State of Pennsylvania at White Haven.
He was a US Army Veteran of WWII, and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mifflinville. He was also a member of the Berwick Field and Stream Hunting Club and the NRA.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife, the former Helene A. Eisenhower, who passed away December 23, 2016; a daughter Tammy Clark, 2014; a granddaughter Nicole Hunter Kimmel, 2015; and three brothers Franklin, Carl, and Oscar and a sister Elva Ebert.
Surviving are three sons, Gary, State College; Brian and his wife Marsha, Lime Ridge; Lyle and his wife Angelica, Berwick; five daughters, Barbara Belles, Lime Ridge; Janet Hunter and her husband Ronald, Orangeville; Sandra Traver, Millville; Elva Venarchick and her husband Peter, Danville; and Wendy Chamberis and her husband Michael, Catawissa; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; one brother Russell, Drums; and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Monday at 11 am from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (West) 1265 Rock Glen Road, Rock Glen, with his pastor, the Rev. Brian Vasey officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 10 am until the time of the service.
