Joan M. Castrina, 83, of Drums, passed away Monday, January 14th at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore, following a year long illness.
Born in Hazleton, April 26, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John and Gertrude (Miller) Minsenberger and had spent the past 32 years in Drums, after moving from Lowville, NY.
Joan was a member of Good Shepherd RC Church, Drums. She was a homemaker who loved her children and her family and was an avid reader and frequent visitor of the Conyngham branch of the Hazleton Public Library.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by a sister Rosemary Green.
Surviving are her loving husband of 61 years, Richard A. Castrina, to whom she was married on November 30th 1957; five children, Samantha Robbins and her husband David, Horseheads, NY; Rebecca Bordenaro, Ithaca, NY; Margaret Mary Tiernan and her husband Steven, Watertown, NY; Jennifer Sullivan and her husband Grant, Freeville, NY; and Richard Castrina and his wife April, Carthage, NY; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Raynock and her husband Jim, Emmaus; and some nieces and nephews also survive.
Her funeral will be held Friday with a Memorial Service at 11am from Harman Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums. Rev. Connell McHugh will officiate the services at the funeral home. Burial will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10am until the time of the service.
