James Allen Kohler, Jr., 73, of Sugarloaf, passed away early Sunday morning at Geisinger Medical Center – Danville, following a battle with cancer.

Born in Gloversville, NY, June 16, 1944, he was the son of the late James Allen Kohler, Sr. and Harriet (Robison) Kohler and had resided in Conyngham and Sugarloaf since 1967.

James was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Conyngham.  He was a Penn State Alumni and was employed as a golf course superintendent at Sand Springs and Valley Country Club. His greatest joy came from spending time with his children and grandchildren.  James took delight in maintaining his swimming pool for his grandchildren to enjoy.  He loved golfing, building courses, grilling, and was an avid Penn State football fan.  He was a kid at heart and loved trips to Disney World, relishing in roller coasters and other thrill rides.  He was interested in weather and politics and was a member of the Dinner Club, a group of friends who have met once a month for the past 30 years.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a nephew David Vandywalker, and a brother-in-law Vande Vandywalker.

Surviving are his wife, the former Joanne Garbacik, with whom he would have celebrated 42 years of marriage on September 5, 2017; daughters, Denise Kohler and her husband Walter Cornett, Bensalem; Kimberly Martini and her fiancée Tony Baran, Sugarloaf; son, James and his wife Jasmin Kohler, CO; six grandchildren, Owen Haslam, Alexandra Kohler, Jake and Abigail Cornett, Olivia Martini, and Mia Kohler; brother, Dave Kohler and his wife Maureen, Gloversville, NY; two sisters, Helen Vandywalker, Gloversville, NY; and Mary Jane Harford and her husband Bob, Fultonville, NY.
