Frank J. Ciampi, 87, of Sybertsville, passed away Thursday evening at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown, following a brief illness.
Born in West Pittston, January 13, 1930, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Gatrone) Ciampi
Frank was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, having attained the rank of Private First Class. He was the President/Owner of International Printing Company Inc., Hazleton for over 50 years prior to retiring in 2006. He was a member of the Typographical Union since 1960, and served as editor of Anthracite Tri District Newspaper for over 20 years. He was a member of Hazleton UNICO for over 50 years. He served the organization as President, Vice President, Parliamentarian and was recognized as its Outstanding Italian American in 2011. He was also instrumental in raising funds for the first kidney dialysis machine in Hazleton and for student scholarships. He was Past President of the Hazleton/Wilkes-Barre Arthritis Foundation, the Can Do Board for 20 years, and the printing advisory committee with the Hazleton Area School District for 35 years.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a brother Thomas and a sister Ann Marie Pizano.
Surviving are his wife to whom he was married 63 years on April 19, 2017, the former Ann Marie Mesolella; three daughters Rosemary Hockenbury and her husband Edward, Sugarloaf; Karen Slusser, and her husband Bruce, Jr., Sugarloaf; and Ann Marie Kubik, Conyngham; a son Frank J. Ciampi and his wife Joanne, Hazle Township; six grandchildren, Ryan Hockenbury, his wife Michele and their daughter Michella; Cory Hockenbury and his wife D’Orsay; Bruce Slusser III and his wife Willow; P.J. Kubik, his wife Amanda and their son Landon; Kyle Kubik and his fiancée Fiorela; and Frank J. Ciampi and his fiancée Jessica. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
His funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:30 am from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East) 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. John Bosco RC Church, 573 State Route 93, Sugarloaf. The Rev. Richard J. Polmounter will celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, 49 S. Hunter Highway, Drums. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday evening from 6-9 pm. A Christian Wake Service will be held Monday evening.
