Edward A. "Cookie" Plafcan

Edward A. “Cookie” Plafcan, 85, of Bloomsburg passed away Sunday at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Bloomsburg, July 23, 1932, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Zapach) Plafcan and had spent the past 50 years in Bloomsburg and had lived in New Jersey while working there.

Cookie was a retired foreman for Coal Contractors and Yamulla enterprises. He was an Army veteran, serving as a MP for 3 years during his time of service.  He was past president and a founding member of Tip Top Hunting Club, past president of the Beaver Fire Hall. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, county music, and was a fan of sports; especially the Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Steelers and Nascar Racing.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a sister, Theresa Weitzel, and three brothers, Nicholas Plafcan, Joseph Yutko Jr., and Larry Yutko.

Surviving are his wife, with whom he would have celebrated 49 years of marriage on the 26th of October, Julia (Marinock) Plafcan, one daughter, Suzanne Adamchick and her husband Joseph, Bloomsburg; three grandchildren, Courtney, Zachary, and Taylor Adamchick all of Bloomsburg; a brother, Michael Plafcan and his wife Lana, Tomhicken; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A graveside memorial service for family and close friends will be held Wednesday at 12:30pm in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Weston. Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory (West), 1265 Rock Glen Road, Rock Glen is assisting the family with the arrangements.
