Daniel F. Lovrinic, M.D., of Sugarloaf, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2017, at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center, after a lengthy illness.

He was the son of the late Stephen and Anna (Harabin) Lovrinic.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Jean Scheers and a brother John Lovrinic.

Dr. Lovrinic is survived by his beloved wife Mary (Majusiak) Lovrinic; his loving children Spencer Lovrinic, State College; Julie Smith and her husband Mike, Santa Monica, CA; Matthew Lovrinic, Lafayette, CO; and Jennifer Freeman and her husband Mark, Philadelphia; a sister Dolores Ferko and her husband Mike, Hazleton; a brother William Lovrinic, M.D. and his wife Jean, Arizona; a sister-in-law Barbara Lovrinic, Lambertville, NJ; granddaughters Harper and Avery Smith, Georgia and Halle Freeman; and several nieces and nephews.

Dr. Lovrinic was a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University and Jefferson Medical College.  He completed his internship at Chicago Wesley Memorial and his Orthopaedic Residency at Northwestern University.  He also served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War as a Medical Officer.

Dr. Lovrinic returned to Hazleton to begin his Orthopaedic career and had a private practice in the area for 27 years.  He then became a staff member at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center for several years prior to his retirement.  He particularly enjoyed talking with and caring for all of the veterans, while working at the VA.

Dr. Lovrinic was a staff member at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Hazleton General Hospital.  He was a member of the Orthopaedic Society at Jefferson, a member of the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania State Medical Society, and Luzerne County, and Hazleton Area Medical Societies.  He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and Dr. Lovrinic was certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial August 2, 2017 at 10 am in St. John Bosco RC Church, 573 State Route 93, Sugarloaf.  Interment will follow in Holy Trinity German Catholic Cemetery, Hazleton.
