Anthony J. Tobias, 98, formerly of Weston and a resident of Providence Place Drums, for the past six years, passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton, following a short illness.
Born in West Hazleton, December 28, 1920, he was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Fendryck) Tobias. Prior to residing at Providence Place, he had resided in Weston, full-time since 1976, and part-time since 1955 while also residing in New York City.
Anthony was a retired Truck Driver for Nabisco in New York. He had also at different times in his life worked as a farmer, coal miner, a school bus driver, and in the maintenance department for Penn State University, Hazleton Campus. He was a US Army Air Force veteran of WW II, having attained the rank of Sergeant, and was a member of the American Legion post #699, Nuremberg. He was a member of Sacred Heart RC Church, Weston and was also a member and Past President of the Nuremberg Ambulance Association. He enjoyed watching football and gardening.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife the former Lottie Wagner, who passed away in 2008, two brothers Leonard and Francis; and a sister Margaret Hoats Lawrence.
Surviving are two sons James and his wife Millette, Hershey; and Terry and his wife Mary, Lexington, NC; six grandchildren, Andrea Barber, Michael, Kevin, and Christopher Tobias, Elizabeth Siwulec, and Jennifer Caviness; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Friday, January 4, 2019 at 10 am from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (West) 1265 Rock Glen Road, Rock Glen, with his pastor, the Rev. Patrick McDowell officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart RC Cemetery Weston. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday, January 3, 2019 7-9 PM.
