Richard V. Horinko, Sr., 69, of Hazle Township, passed away unexpectedly Thursday afternoon at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Hazleton, April 19, 1943, he was the son of the late Richard M. and Catherine (Curney) Horinko. Richard grew up in the Hazleton area and was a 1961 gradute of Hazleton High School. He then served with the US Air Force at a Jet Mechanic. He later resided in Levittown before returning the area 31 years ago.
Richard was an automotive technician and proprietor of Meiss Towning and Repair, Hazle Township. He was a member of Transfiguration RC Church, West Hazleton, the Hazleton Owls Rod and Gun Club, E.C.U.S. Club of Hazleton, and the NRA. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and darts.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife the former Jean E. Schott, who passed away August 16, 2009; and a sister Betty Koch.
Surviving are three children Richard V. Jr., Williamsport; Tracey Lynn Slattery and her husband Christopher, West Hazleton; and Kevin J. and his wife Lisa, Hazleton; six grandchildren, Emilli and Caleigh Horinko, William Robert Price, Breanna Slattery, and Kevin and Brandon Horinko; a sister Dolores Sabol, Levittown, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.

Rich and I were pretty good friends and I had the chance to work with him way back in the day and even did some jobs for him not to long ago....to hear of his passing, to say the least, was a shock to me. My heartfelt sympathy to his family. He will not be forgotten. If anything is needed, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will do my best to help you out.

I am so sorry to hear of your unexpected loss. I''ve always considered Richie to be more than an acquaintance and I''ll surely miss his wit and his quick mind. I always enjoyed his company and I want you to know that I share in your grief.

Just want to thank everyone who sent their condolences in on this web site,and anyone who called or sent cards. We as a family greatly appreciate your kind words and sympathy towards my dad and towards us, his kids. My dad was a special person and will be missed so much, we love him dearly now and forever.
