Benjamin F. Heffelfinger, 97, of Conyngham, passed away Thursday morning at his home.
Born in Lansford, July 7, 1915, he was the son of the late A. George and Mary Jane (Brimmer) Heffelfinger. He spent the past 47 years in Conyngham after moving from Nuremberg.
Ben was the retired Sales Manager for Prestolite, Hazleton. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII, having served three years with the Army Corp of Engineers. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of Hazel-Azalea Fellowship Lodge #327, Hazleton and the Caldwell Consistory of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Bloomsburg.
Ben’s life revolved around family and service to the community. He spent every waking moment either providing for his family or volunteering his time to a host of organizations. He served on multiple church councils and Conyngham Boro Council. He volunteered countless hours assisting many Lutheran Welfare Service endeavors.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by brothers George, James, Edward, and William; and a sister Elizabeth Thomas.
Surviving are his wife of the past 69 years, the former Mabel Troy; a daughter Jill Schaffer and her husband Robert, Slatington; a son Dr. Eric Heffelfinger and his wife Mary, Philadelphia; two granddaughters Krista and Sarah Heffelfinger; a sister Kathryn Jones, Pottsville; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Monday at 11 am with a memorial service in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 467 Main Street, Conyngham. His pastor the Rev. William “Chip” Fairchild will officiate the services. Interment will be held privately in Nuremberg Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 10 am until the time of the service.
