Hazel C. Bertoldi of Fern Glen passed away peacefully at her home Saturday, June 30th after a short illness.
Hazel was born March 2, 1922, in Gowen to Elizabeth Medvecz and John Gonda and spent her entire life in Fern Glen. Hazel celebrated her 90th birthday this year.
She enjoyed and loved finding and trying new recipes, watching and cheering for the Phillies, eating sweets, pizza night every Thursday, traveling to Florida at Thanksgiving, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her childhood dream was to be a tap dancer, but her true calling was in being a devoted wife and mother.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Louis R. Bertoldi, Jr. in 1964, as well as sisters Irene Lupcho, Anna and Mary Martini, Veronica Rossi, and Elizabeth Zanolini, and a brother Andrew Gonda.
Surviving are her children, Louis A. and his wife Patricia, Weston; Diane Ontko and her husband Donald, Sarasota, FL; David and his wife Deborah, Shillington; Joseph and his companion Debra Farquharson, Fern Glen; Mary Kamerzel and her husband David, Mt. Grove; Mark and his wife Sheila, Wallace, NC; and Kim Yenkevich and her husband Thomas, Chester, VA. She is also survived by sisters Dorothy Pekala, Fern Glen; and Magdalene Sabol and her husband George, Hazleton, as well as 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 am from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (West) 1265 Rock Glen Road, Rock Glen, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in Sacred Heart RC Church, Weston. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening 6-9 pm. A Christian Wake Service will be held Tuesday evening.
Donations in Hazel’s memory can be made to Nuremberg Community Ambulance, PO Box 47, Nuremberg, PA 18241 or Nuremberg-Weston Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 530, Sugarloaf, PA 18249. Online condolences can be entered and more information is available at www.harmanfuneral.com.

Kim, Tom, Kara, and the Bertoldi family,
We are so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. We had the privilege of being in her company many times and she was a sweetheart. When I read in her obituary how much she loved cooking and trying new recipes, I just smiled because I vividly remember Kim, a new bride in Colorado where our husbands were stationed together, making Hazel's spaghetti sauce - and it was so good that Kim gave this new bride the recipe, which I still have. Hazel's au gratin potatoes, which we NEVER could replicate, were the best ever. Hazel was a lovely lady, and we hope that in time the peace and comfort of happy memories will make your loss easier to bear. Take care.
