William C. Boyer, Sr., 83, of Drums, passed away Tuesday evening at Hazleton General Hospital, following a two-year illness.
Born in Pottsville, April 1, 1929, he was the son of the late Winfield and Marie (Sandrock) Boyer and was raised in Pottsville. He spent the past 62 years in Drums after moving from Hazleton.
Bill was the manager of Moyer Electric, Hazleton, where he worked for 62 years before retiring in 2010. He was a member and past council member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Johns. He was a 50 year member of Hazle-Azalea Fellowship Lodge #327 F&A Masons. He was also a member of the Butler Township Fire Company, and Bunton Bock Old Timers. He assisted with the Boy Scouts in Drums when his sons were young and enjoyed camping and fishing trips to Canada.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife the former Lucille J. Sims, who passed away December 12, 2002; a grandson Jason Boyer, June 2, 2005; and sisters Margaret Smith, Winnie Murphy, and Evelyn Shandri.
Surviving are two sons, William C., Jr. and his wife Marie; and Larry R. and his wife Mary, all of Drums; four grandchildren Jennifer Krebs, James, Joseph, and Ivy Boyer; three great-grandchildren, Emily and Sophia Krebs and Branden Boyer; a brother Richard Boyer, Pottsville; a brother-in-law Larry Sims and his wife MaryEllen, Drums; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 10 am from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East) 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums, with his pastor, Sister Janet Stump officiating. Burial will follow in St. Johns Lutheran and UCC Cemetery, St. Johns. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday evening 7-9 pm.
