Michael S. Pecora

February 25, 1940 ~ October 8, 2016 (age 76) 76 Years Old

Michael S. Pecora, 76, of Sugarloaf Township, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon at his home.

Born in West Hazleton, he was the son of the late Salvadore N. and Rose M. (Matteo) Pecora, and had spent his entire life in Sugarloaf Township and Hazleton area.

Michael was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by an infant brother Salvadore and a granddaughter Magdalyn J. Pecora.

Surviving are his wife Cheryl (Swentz) Pecora; three children Jefferson M., his wife Jennifer, and their son Anthony, of Stuart, Florida; Christopher S. and his children Samuel, Rachel, and Matthew, West Hazleton; and Cheri D. and husband Rodney Hoffman, Bethlehem; and her children Haylee, Nicholas, and Alexandra Chura, West Hazleton; as well as two great-grandchildren Carson and Adelyn.

Mike was a 1957 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Wyoming Seminary and then Wilkes College, Wilkes-Barre, PA.

In 1969, Michael was a pioneer in establishing the area’s premier leading real estate firm, located in West Hazleton - M.S. Pecora, Realtor - “The Action Agency” - where he remained at the helm for 47 successful years.  Mike was a co-founder in establishing the Greater Hazleton Board of Realtors and Hazleton Multiple Listing System as well as a member of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce. 

As President of Candid Estates, Inc - a commercial land development and holding company, Michael was instrumental in establishing many of the present business sites located along the Route 93 corridor including the Weis/Lowe’s complex and the residential subdivisions of Chapel Hill Estates and Park Crest.  

Dear to Mike’s heart was his participation in the co-founding and establishment of Grace Fellowship Church on Pecora Boulevard.  

Mike was an avid sportsman who loved the outdoors especially hunting and fishing and was co-founder of P&L Gun Club.

His funeral will be held Friday at 1 pm from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East) 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums, with Pastor Chad Bennett officiating.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Drums.  Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 10 am until the time of the service.
