James A. Scalise, 91, of Conyngham, passed away Saturday afternoon at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton, following a brief illness.

Born in Hazleton, January 29, 1922, he was the son of the late Anthony and Felicia (Juliano) Scalise, and spent the past eight years in Conyngham after moving from Hazleton.

James was a retired mail carrier for the US Postal Service.  He attended St. John Bosco RC Church, Conyngham and had been a member of the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Hazleton.  He was a US Army Veteran of WWII and was the recipient of a Purple Heart.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents, by his wife the former Carmella A. Vito, who passed away August 21, 2005; a son-in-law James J. Belletiere; a grandson James J. Belletiere; two brothers Joseph and Atilio; and two sisters Anna Methot and Teresa Nelson.

Surviving are his daughter, Phyllis Belletiere with whom he resided in Conyngham; three grandchildren Lori Belletiere-Eckert, and Michael and Carmella Belletiere; three grandchildren Tiffany, Vanessa, and James Belletiere, Jr.; a great-grandson Mathew Ryan; and several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in the chapel at Calvary Cemetery, 49 S. Hunter Highway, Drums.  Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East) 669 W.
