James J. Cregan, 74, of Drums passed away late Thursday evening at his home following a lengthy illness.

Born in Jersey City, NJ, November 19, 1940, he was the son of the late Patrick and Lillian (Murphy) Cregan, and spent the past 19 years in Drums after moving from Rockville Center, NY.

Jim was a retired Emergency Gas Dispatcher for Con-Edison in New York.  He loved fishing.  He was a founding member of the Beech Mountain Lakes Sports Club and organized the club’s children’s fishing derby for 11 years.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents, by sisters Marie, Lillian, and Anita; and a brother Patrick.

Surviving are his wife of the past 21 years, the former Catherine A. Binger; five children Kerry Miley, Drums; Kathleen Kelly and her husband John, E. Rockaway, NY; Mary Pat Cregan, Long Beach, NY; Karolyn Cregan, Point Lookout, NY; and James J. Cregan and his wife Christina, Oakdale, NY; three step-children Keith Barry, Long Beach, NY; Linda Cunningham, Drums; and Kevin Barry and Gina, Woodmere, NY; fourteen grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 18th, at 10 am in the Beech Mountain Lakes Restaurant.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project 301 Grant Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 or online at www.woundedwarriorproject.org; or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or online at www.stjude.org.
