Gladys (Larzelere) Vack

Gladys Larzelere Vack passed away Wednesday at the Pavilion at St. Luke Village, one day before her 88th birthday. 

The daughter of the late Sterling and Rachel (Witner), Gladys was born in Hazleton in 1929.  She graduated from Weatherly High School as the Valedictorian of the Class of 1947.

Gladys was a devoted wife and mother, and, in her earlier years, she was a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, and member of the American Legion Home Association.  She worked at Warner’s Store and Tung Sol Lamp Works, was the Office Manager at the Weatherly Water Company, and retired as the Office Manager at the Weatherly Steel Company.

Gladys was married to her high school sweetheart, William, for over sixty-seven years prior to his passing in 2014.  After living in Weatherly for most of her life, she and her husband moved to Amity Retirement Village, Hazleton, in July, 2000.  Gladys loved to plant and tend to her flowers and was known to be an excellent cook.

She was preceded in death by her husband William J. Vack, who passed away August 24, 2014.

Gladys is survived, by her son William S. (Mary) Vack, Weatherly; daughters Cheryl (Manus) Stanker, Yardley; and Raydell (Lawrence) Steward;, Weatherly; three grandsons Jonathan (Denise), Dustin (Billie Jo), and Jesse (Danielle) Steward, and five great-grandchildren Benjamin, Brynlee, Sierra, Cheyenne, and Dakota.

A graveside service for both Gladys and William will be held in Weatherly Union Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.
