Elizabeth M. "Betty" (Adams) Buffington

Elizabeth M. “Betty” Buffington, 91, of Conyngham, passed away late Monday evening at Celtic Hospice, Wilkes-Barre following a brief illness.

Born in Williamstown, on January 7, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Clayton and Amy (Weidel) Adams and spent the last 40 years in Conyngham after moving from Dunmore.

Betty was a member of Conyngham United Methodist Church, and the church’s United Methodist Women, and was a homemaker most of her life.  She enjoyed playing bridge, crocheting, knitting and was an avid reader.  She was a member of the valley craft club and the PPL Woman’s Bowling League. 

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents by a sister and four brothers.

Surviving are her husband Leon C. Buffington, with whom she celebrated 73 years of marriage on January 1, 2016, three children, Nancy Simmers, Northampton; Leon K. Buffington, Whitehall; and Beverly Hilliard and her husband Bruce, Drums; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held Saturday at 11am in Conyngham U.M. Church, 411 Main Street Conyngham.  Friends may call at the church Saturday from 10am until the time of the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Conyngham U.M. Church, PO BOX AB, Conyngham, PA 18219 or to Celtic Hospice, 601 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, PA 18704.
