Arthur F. McCormick, 94, of Conyngham, passed away Wednesday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton.
Born in Rochester, NY, October 24, 1921, he was the son of the late Arthur and Gladys (Roe) McCormick, and spent the past 41 years in Conyngham after moving from Mountainside, NJ.
Arthur was US Marine Corps Veteran of WWII, having served in the South Pacific, and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of St. John Bosco RC Church, Sugarloaf, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and sang with the church choir. He was well know for reciting the daily morning rosary on SSPTV, Channel 13. He enjoyed singing and was a member of the Glee Club of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City and hand also sung opera in Carnegie Hall. He was a retired Vice President of Sales for the former Garland Commercial Industries, Freeland and served on the advisory board for Penn State Hazleton Campus.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife the former Alberta “Billie” Beary, who passed away September 28, 1991; an infant daughter Frances; three brothers; and a sister.
Surviving are five children William Laties and his wife Loli, Perth Amboy, NJ; Gary McCormick and his wife Marie, Oceanview, DE; Patricia Pelenski and her husband Walter, Lanoka Harbor, NJ; Timothy McCormick and his wife Lorrie, New Castle, DE; and Christine Bobeck, Conyngham; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 9:30 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Bosco RC Church, 573 State Route 93, Sugarloaf. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery, Drums. Friends may call Friday evening 7-9 pm at Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East) 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums and Saturday morning from 8:15-9:15 am at the church.
